I was really hoping that Will can give me some critique to my design, but he only has time to do some tonal value, which is always fascinating to see.

I know, it's cool. Just the amount of dark and light, and how he lays with the shadows is truly impressive. And he did it in about 10-15 minutes while explaining to students how he did these values. Of course, he said this is "rough" and just to get me started. Uh-huh.

Will explained to us how it's beneficial to get couple of passes until these values are approved, and the next step is to do some colors. I'm not much into color values but after what he had done, I might be really inclined learning more about it. It's way cool, and there's a way in Photoshop where you can replace the color while respecting the gray shades.

What do you think?

Designing props

The next class is prop design. It's a very good complimentary session after the composition class. There are some interesting strategy on how to approach good design. My first drawing I did was very quick and small. So it's not really worth my time to scan and show his fixes. Instead I'll post the last one.

The premise is to design a chinese junk ship as a pirate ship. So I did couple of thumbs of some props, but less concerned about the composition.

So, here it is.

The wooden plank is kinda tacky, but I think it's cool. Your thought?

Will's fix on composition assignment #2

I thought I had a pretty good composition on the first try. Will then decided that those statues can be "scattered" in a more appealing matter. Getting rid of the unnecessary foreground elements, and put the primary statue more in the "foreground."

So I fixed it. There are couple of things I can fix (e.g. tangency lines)

It lacks something though, any suggestion?
